ABOUT THE UJTF

We are a coalition of organizations and residents of Onondaga County and the City of Syracuse. We are friends, neighbors, business people, and community-minded advocates.

We are concerned about the lack of access to employment opportunities faced by citizens in Syracuse as well as the poverty that results from it. We work to combat poverty by advocating for job training and job opportunities for Syracuse’s unemployed and under-employed workers, especially minorities.

We believe publicly subsidized economic development should give equal economic opportunity to all residents, and improve the well-being of all our neighborhoods.

We fight for dignity and fairness in local economic policy.

Imagine

We believe that a more inclusive economy is possible in Syracuse by creating policies that promote local employment.

WHAT WE DO

Educate

We educate ourselves, the community, local leaders, organizations and public officials on initiatives that foster local employment.

Policy

We work with elected oficials and organizations to create policies that provide oportunities for disenfranchised communities.

Advocacy

We advocate, organize, and fight against "business as usual" and any entity or organization that stands as barrier to creating a more inclusive economy and society in Syracuse.

WHAT IS A CBA

Watch video on Portland's CBA

A Community Benefits Agreement or "CBA" is a contract signed by community groups and a real estate developer that requires the developer to provide specific amenities and/or mitigations to the local community or neighborhood. Site-specific community benefits agreements (CBAs) ensure that particular projects create opportunities for local workers and communities. Often, however, these projects change the city's development paradigm; when decision makers realize what well-considered projects with specific benefits attached can bring to the community, the city enacts community benefits policies that set the stage for lifting thousands of people out of poverty.
